Dear Nostradamus, what a tolerant fellow you are! Your interpreters really have messed around with you! One after the other, stating they have discovered the meaning of this or that quatrain; declaring that your words have at last been understood. Obviously, it is always about so called prophecies, i.e. cryptic visions of the future. Sure! Well no. The article you're about to read is exceptional, because it leads you from Interpretation to Evidence, which is not the same thing at all. Let's imagine that Nostradamus pretended to compose prophecies. He would have put that mask on his work in order to hide the real purpose. The thing is that not a single one of the quatrains can be interpreted in a certain way, if it were about the future. Either Nostradamus was a fraud; either we still haven't understood his message. Let's now take a radical change in direction! What is it that makes evidence possible? Numbers: 1, 2, 3, etc… I want to present you with an incredible number, which was known at the time of Nostradamus: the Golden Number. Leonardo da Vinci used to call it the golden section, and many people considered this invariant to be the signature of God himself. It is certainly exciting to discover that the Golden Number reads as follows:
Phi=1,618 1/Phi=0,618 Phi²=2,618 Magical…!
And what is the most famous number in geometrics, which is also a signature of the Cosmic Intelligence? That would be Pi, obviously. The Pi number was also known at the time of Nostradamus: 3,14159. If Nostradamus had used numbers to codify his prophecies, no doubt that he would have chosen Phi and Pi, those two eternal markers. Assuming that, incredible discoveries are awaiting! Nostradamus cryptically said about himself that he "had received from hand to hand the Knowledge of Mathematics from his antique progenitors." Then, a man named Jean d'Astruc wrote in 1767 his "Mémoires pour server la faculté de Montpellier" [Memoirs to serve the faculty of Montpellier]. He states that Nostradamus' grandfather "taught him the elements of Latin and mathematics."
The Prophecies: the 58 missing quatrains
The prophecies of Nostradamus remain a mystery until this day. They consist of 10 Centuries, each of them containing a hundred quatrains. The quatrains do not have a straight forward meaning. If we chose a mathematical approach, it looks better: 10 Centuries of 100 quatrains each, which means that the segmentation is rational. Isn't that surprising? However, this pattern doesn't hold all the line: Century VII only has 42 quatrains! Weird. Here is a scheme of the prophecies showing the 58 missing quatrains:
Taking the middle into account, are the numbers we get in harmony with each other? No, but if we take a closer look at them, we notice that they have a relation to the Golden Number:
500 x 142 x 58 x 300 = 1235 which nearly equals 2/Phi (= 1236).
In order to make the reading and the presentation easier, we will not take the decimals into account. The numbers will have a maximum of 4 numbers, since that is enough to show the precision of the calculations.
Let's hold our horses for a moment! The previous result certainly is encouraging, but it could be random. Fortunately, much better things are ahead. If we add 58 to each of the other quantities, things become serious:
"Nostradamus", Dr E. Leroy.
58 / 300+58 = 162, which nearly equals Phi (=1618)
500 + 58 x 58 = 3236 = 2Phi exactly (=3236)
142 + 58 = 2
What is that? Phi, 2Phi and 2! That means that the four quantities are potential generators of the Golden Number. It is also easy to add the following:
600 + 58 x 58 = 1/262, which nearly equals 1/Phi² (=1/2618)
The conclusion is that the quatrains are not compiled at random, according to some "psychic" inspiration. The work can also be understood as being a series of carefully chosen numbers. When creating the structure of his prophecies, Nostradamus chose a number of quatrains that is in harmony with the Golden Number. This approach accounts for the 58 missing quatrains, and doesn't bother with the text in itself. I encourage the sceptics to go on reading, because our ciphered infra-structure hasn't said everything yet.
942 quatrains were actually written. They can be arranged in three groups of 100Pi quatrains:
Actually, regarding the total number of quatrains, there are two possibilities: 942 quatrains that were actually written or 1000 quatrains in theory. These two amounts seem to be made for each other:
1000 + 942 = 1942, which is exactly Pi/Phi!
What about the mean?
Let's take a look at what we have: behind the apparently random segmentation of the Centuries, we have discovered that Pi and Phi were hidden. At the origin of the book, a scientific approach must have taken place (and the Renaissance loved that kind of things). The proportions are ciphered when the 1000 quatrains are recovered; they are also ciphered when all we have are 942 quatrains. If we follow up that strictly mathematical path, a question springs to mind: what happens if we take the mean of the two quantities? We chose to take the 58 missing quatrains, and then we chose not to take them: now why don't we take half of them, i.e. 29. Then we have a theoretical amount of 971 quatrains.
This exercise was a good one: the number isn't any number. 971/6=1618, that is exactly Phi! That in turn means that the 971 theoretical quatrains are divided into 6 groups of 100Phi quatrains:
Quite smart of Nostradamus, since 6 is an exceptional number, at crossroads between Pi and Phi. Actually, 6 = Pi/2Phi². Nostradamus probably thought it was remarkable that the ratio between the two constants would be the number 6. That, indeed, is the choice of a mathematician that is aware of Pi and Phi.
So what? The 600th quatrain of the prophecies is an exception: it is the only one that is written in Latin. It is also the only one that has a title:
LEGIS CANTIO CONTRA INEPTOS CRITICOS
Quos legent hosce versus mature censunto, Profanum vulgus & inscium ne attrectato: Omnesq; Astrologi, Blennis, Barbari procul sunto, Qui aliter facit, is rite sacer esto.
INCANTATION OF THE LAW AGAINST INEPT CRITICS
Let those who read this verse consider it profoundly, Let the profane and the ignorant herd keep away: And far away all Astrologers, Idiots and Barbarians, May he who does otherwise be subject to the sacred rite.
It is thus clear that the initiate didn't write his prophecies to entertain people. Having "considered it profoundly", the quatrains must be ciphered, but not astrologically ("and far away all Astrologers"). We will encounter the number 6 further on; but it is still present in the mere structure of the Centuries. Indeed, 942/971 = 5996Phi, i.e. almost 6Phi.
We now get a glimpse of the astute numbered preparation that was must have taken place before the mere editing of the Centuries. There's nothing haphazardous in the numbers, rather an invitation to find the breadcrumb trail.
The Middle, the Half or the Mean are essential concepts. It is thus not surprising to find them here. We can split our 971 quatrains in two parts of 485,5 quatrains each. The Golden Number is once again looming, since 485,5 / 300 = 1618. We can conclude that everything has been prepared on purpose, all parts are adjusted to one another, in a secret and predetermined way.... as if it were a box of Lego blocs for which the directions of use had gone lost.
The Templar's quatrain
Although we have come this far, we still haven't looked at the text in itself. Roger Prévost shows us a door through which to go in his "Nostradamus, le mythe et la réalité". He feels that some of the quatrains probably refer to past events, and not to future one. Thanks to his remarkable study, our attention is drawn to the 81st quatrain:
Nine will be set apart from the human flock, separated from judgment and council. Their fate is to be divided as they depart. K. Th. L. dead, banished and scattered.
This quatrain probably refers to the end of the Knights of Templar. The first three verses seem to refer to the execution of 9 Knights of Templar in Senlis. Their case was severed in 1310. The last verse brings Greek letters that corresponded to numbers during the Antiquity. Kappa = 9, theta =20, lambda = 30. The multiplication of those number equals 540; and 54 Knights of Templar were executes in Paris in1310. Therefore, the interpretation involving the Templars is plausible.
The 81st quatrain would thus hide the events of the year 1310, about the end of the Order. This hypothesis should be confirmed by the numbers related to it. And such is the case: 1310 / 81 = 1617, which nearly equals Phi (=1618)! And 81 is the closest whole number to Phi/2 (=809)
That's something! But then, why would Nostradamus want to tell us about the Templars in a secret way? Why didn't he talk about them openly? Could it be that he was aware of a secret transmitted by the Templars? We'll have to postpone the answer to these disturbing questions; the numbers are calling for our attention. We'll be surprised to see how 81 - the number of the quatrain - and 1310 - the date - are closely linked together in the mere structure of the Centuries:
The reader will recall the mean of the total number of quatrains 971. We thus have:
Mean/81 = 1199, which nearly equals Pi/Phi² (=12) 1/Mean x 81 = 1271, which nearly equals the root of Phi (=1271) Mean x 1310 = Phi/1199, which nearly equals Pi/Phi²
Obviously, "12" is the ideal reference, since it has two numbers resulting from the fraction of two key invariants. At this point, I would advise the sceptical readers to turn to a maths teacher or a psychotherapist… The number of actual quatrains, 942, is part of an amazing equality: 1/942 x 1310 = 8103!
Why the Templars?
The Order of the Knights of Templar began in 1118, when 9 knights went to Jerusalem to swear fidelity to the King. Even though they didn't fight a single time in the course of 9 years, they argued they wished to defend the Christian pilgrims. They dwelled where the ancient Temple of Solomon used to stand, which is why they were called the Knight of Templar. They are known to have conducted archaeological excavations. In the end they returned to Europe, where they conformed themselves to a rule set up by Saint Bernard. The Order blossomed in an extraordinary way, it quickly spread throughout Europe. It became very wealthy and powerful. It only had to account for itself to the Pope, and was a kind of parallel power to the States. In the Oriental world, the Templars fought to protect the pilgrims, defending the Holy land against the Muslims. But Philippe le Bel was to put a sudden end to their adventures: he had them all arrested one morning in 1307. After an iniquitous trial, the Order was dissolved, and the last Great Master, Jacques de Molay, was burnt in Paris in 1314. In 1312, Philippe le Bel, sitting next to the Pope, had listened to the solemn reading of the suppression of the Order. After this brief presentation, let's go back to our initial question: Why the Templars? What was it they were hiding? There are a great many books about the "Mystery" of the Templars. No need to look for the answer too long before we're able to suggest a reasonable theory. But first, why is the key in the 81st quatrain? 81 = 9 x 9, and that is a common number in the Templars' symbolic. In the beginning, there were 9 Knights, who spent 9 years in the Holy Land (except for one other Knight who joined them during the 9 years). In 1310, there were 9 Templars whose case was treated separately; that was the year of a protest against the inquisitorial procedures submitted by 9 Knights. The "gonfalon", i.e. the banner of the Templars, called "Beaucéant", had a chessboard made of 81 cases (9 x 9)! The number 9 is found again in the history of the Temple of Solomon. When its architect, Hiram, disappeared, the King Solomon sent 9 men to find him... The historian Louis Charpentier (Les mystères de la cathédrale de Chartres) presents a fascinating theory, which has been taken up by several people, including Patrick Rivière (Les Templiers et leurs Mystères) and Michel Lamy (Les Templiers, ces grands seigneurs aux blancs manteaux). The first 9 Knights would have gone to Jerusalem in order to find a rare and precious object. Actually, the Temple of Solomon was built to house the Arch of Alliance, which contained the Tables of Law, offered to Moses by Yahweh. The famous Arch of Alliance was the Hebrews' most precious treasure, Yahweh talked to his People through the Arch. Strange enough, this holy treasure disappeared from the surface of earth during the sixth century AD. After that, nobody even mentions it!
It could thus be possible that the primary objective of the Templars was to find the Arch to take it back to the Western world.
The Arch of Alliance and its bearers (by Jacques Thomas)
Some people think the Arch of Alliance is nothing more than a coffin containing two tablets of stone, engraved with the Ten Commandments. That is the classical biblical version. Other suspect it contains a technological object, like a condenser or a kind of receptor left by the Gods! Graham Hancock ("The sign and the Seal") or Guy Mouny ("La symbolique des Dieux") support that theory. As for us, the exact nature of the Arch doesn't matter for the time being, our interest lies in its links to the Knights of Templar. Since we were talking about the year 1310, let's have a look at the quatrain number 131. The last three verses mention the Flood:
In Campania the Capuan will do so much That one will see only fields covered by waters: Before and after the long rain One will see nothing green except the trees.
The Bible tells us about the God's wrath that hit the Earth by the means of a universal Flood. The whole Earth was covered with water, and all life was destroyed. God nevertheless allowed Noah to build a boat, an arch, in which he would be able to take one couple of each of the animal species. Noah's Arch! Could it be that Nostradamus would have chosen that way to tell us about that other Arch, the Arch of Alliance? The word "arch" is only mentioned once in the Prophecies (quatrain III, 13). 4-: Through lightning in the arch gold and silver melted. This verse would suit the Arch perfectly well, since it could spit fire out (lightning) and thus, symbolically, melt gold and silver. 4-: In " Jerusalem traditionnelle et initiatique " Let's count the number of quatrains that separate the one with the arch and the one with the Flood:
(or not) there are 81, and that's the number of the Templars'quatrain. Add these to the 729 quatrains that come after the word "arch", and we have: 81 + 729 = 810 Nous cherchons à savoir si l'ordre du Temple avait un trésor qu'il aurait trouvé dans le temple de Salomon... Justement, les Centuries nous offrent les expressions :
Those two quatrains are separated by 810 quatrains… Now, here is one amazing step in our research; we'll be able to talk about the magic of numbers. We want to confirm whether or not the Templars are related to the Arch: easy, we just need to take a look at how the quatrains number 81 and 213 are set up:
We already notice that 131 quatrains separate them, which corresponds to the year 1310. The multiplication of the three intermissions, i.e. 80 x 131 x 729 = 1/1309, which is the exact value of 2/Phi² (=1309). That also nearly corresponds to the year 1310, save one year! Regarding the lateral numbers: 80 + 729 = 809, i.e. exactly Phi/2 (=809). That certainly proves something, namely that Nostradamus hid in his Prophecies the relationship that existed between the Knights of Templar and the Arch of Alliance.
That is were we find the number 6, which is strongly symbolic for the Arch. In fact, its height is equal to its breadth, and the division with the length gives 6. (By the way, it's interesting to see that the Arch of Noah has the same proportions) It would then be quite logical to discover the number 6 in the intermissions that exist between the two quatrains that we're interested in. We won't be disappointed this time either:
6 x 131 = 1/1272, which the exact opposite of Root of Phi (=1/1272) 80x131x729/6 = 1273, which is exactly 4/Pi(=1273)
Thus we have the confirmation that the quatrain number 81 is indeed related to the Order of the Knights of Templars. We also have the confirmation that the Templars are related to the Arch of Alliance.
When one discovers the way the results seem to appear so evident, one might be under the impression that everything could be proven, that there would always be a way to set up a "proof" by using one or another derivate of Pi or Phi… in order to prove anything or its opposite. Therefore I wish to insist on the logical and precise nature of the equalities. If Nostradamus wished to cipher the number of quatrains, he would obviously have found different mathematical techniques to serve his purpose. What we just have discovered is one ideal technique between others. There is no reasonable way of thinking that such a numeral alchemy would be the result of pure hazard. Having checked our map and compass, we know we're on the right path. Is the word "alliance" found in the Centuries? If it is, it has to be in a ciphered relation to the word "Arch". No problem, "Alliance" is mentioned once:
5 - Note that 1272 and 1273 are an ideal choice for Nostradamus, since those two quantities, very close to one another, are symbolic of a crossroads uniting Pi and Phi.
The moment is a crucial one. We're all excited, but still a bit worried: are we going to find some relevant links, or are we going to be disappointed? After a short investigation, we feel relieved: 404 + 213 = 1/1621, which nearly equals 1/Phi (=1/1618) 404 - 213 = 191, which exactly equals 1/2Phi² (= 191) If we now turn our attention to the number of verses that separate the two verses mentioning "Arch" and "Alliance", we found there are 191 groups of 4 verses. The world is small. Looking through the pages of the "Dictionary of Nostradamus", we find the word "Bible". It is mentioned once. That's interesting. Linked to "Arch", it could probably set a house on fire! It is the Bible that tells us about the Arch. Let's try to link the quatrains together:
A beautiful equality confirms the conceptual relationship: 212x269x459=2618, which is Phi² (= 2618)!
The theory I here try to defend isn't always perfectly supported by evidence. Sometimes I master all the elements of the problems, sometimes I can but grasp some of them... Like an archaeologist, I've been digging in the sand to find what was covered by it. I found different parts of a statue. Let me put it like that: I miss the left arm and the abdomen, but I have its head. What is it, you may ask. It is the conviction that Nostradamus' Prophecies are ciphered with Pi and the Golden Number. Regarding the general structure of the work, I think I've been brilliant. To the best of my knowledge, it is the first time that a scientific deciphering of the Centuries is proposed. Clearly, the "Ordinary Doctor of the King" wished to pass some secret information on to the future generations. He's drawing our attention to the Order of the Knights of Templar and to the Arch of Alliance. According to him, the two themes are intrinsically linked together. The most obvious interpretation leads to the idea that the Templars would have found the Arch and taken it back to Europe. That would fit in with the beginning of the Order. How would Nostradamus be aware of that kind of secrets? Let us not forget the intimate relationship he had with King of France, Henry II and with Catherine of Medicis. Those persons would have ordered the Prophecies from him or asked him to create them. "People" probably considered that hidden truths should not go lost. I certainly do not pretend to have understood everything of Prophecies. This is just the first step in an unusual direction. But my orientation is good, and it opens up to revolutionary approach: Nostradamus, at last, provides us with an undeniable key! Then it's up to us to see if we are able to apprehend it wholly, when it is the opposite of that one would have expected. My approach is compatible to the one that sees in Nostradamus a medium inspired by Heavens. From that point of view, the classical interpreters of the magus still do not have mathematical evidence to support their statements. Sometimes Nostradamus pretends to be writing quatrains that describe the future, in order to describe the past even better . He thus knits the numbered pattern that will support the position of certain words. Maybe we should reconsider Nostradamus, think of him more as a mathematician than as a medium, that would rather work with a pen and paper that with a crystal ball.
